Black Caviar’s First Born a Winner

Tara Madgwick - Friday August 11
Three year-old filly Oscietra, the first foal of undefeated world champion sprinter Black Caviar, is a winner on Friday after saluting at Geelong on the synthetic track.

Prepared by the Hayes Dabernig training partnership, Oscietra was third on debut to subsequent stakes-winner Limestone when making her debut on New Year's Day.

Sent to the paddock immediately after, Oscietra has had a good break and obviously taken physical benefit from her time away from the track.

The daughter of Exceed and Excel showed the pace expected of her from the jump to take up the lead for Regan Bayliss and when asked for a change of gear over the final furlong, she delivered to kick clear and win the 1000 metre maiden by a length and three-quarters.

"It was a great relief for her to win today. David's got her in great order," co-owner Neil Werrett told racing.com

"She came out and did what we expected.

"I expect over the spring that she'll develop. I'm sure David's going to take her easily, through her grades."

Oscietra was retained to race by the original ownership group that raced Black Caviar, but runs in different colours carrying emerald green with black spots.

Black Caviar has a two year-old colt by Sebring called Prince of Caviar that is going into work with Team Hawkes and has a yearling filly by Snitzel to follow.

She is due to foal to More Than Ready (USA) in September.
