King's Rose Colt Tops Record JRHA Yearling Sale

A Deep Impact colt out of the Champion NZ 3yo filly King's Rose topped the yearling session of the JRHA Select Sale.

Consigned by Northern Farm, the brother to Group III Epson Cup winner and multiple Group placed Satono Arthur was purchased by Masahiro Noda's Danox Ltd. for ¥250 million (A$3m).

In total 233 yearlings went through the sales ring and 211 of them were bought for 9,674,500,000yen, US$87,157,658, which is 12.0% more than 12 months ago.

The average price, 45,850,711yen, US$413,070, is 14.7% increase compared with 2017 and the clearance rate improved from 89.3% in 2017 to 90.6% in 2018. The gross sale, average price, and clearance rate are new records at the yearling session of JRHA Sale.

"The gross sale and the clearance rate are both far beyond my expectation", said Katsumi Yoshida of Northern Farm, leading consignor on Monday session. "Nice individuals are sold very well. And I am very happy to see, not only Deep Impact but also other sires are very popular. It is an amazing market."

The foal session of 2018 JRHA Select Sale starts at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday 10th.

Purchaser: Danox Ltd . Price ¥250 million (A$3m).

Winner of the Group 1 NZ 1000 Guineas and placed in the Group 1 Emirates Stakes, Group 1 Toorak Hcp, Group 1 Coolmore Classic and Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes, King's Rose is a sister to Group II Alister Clarke Stakes winner and Group 1 ATC Australian Derby third Hardham.

"He is very nice individual", Masahiro Noda said of the colt he bought, which is the consignment from Northern Racing. "I thought

he would be less than US2 million. But today's market is very strong and I was determined to go for more."

Dam won five stakes races in her native Argentina including the Group 1 Gran Premio Estrellas Distaff.

"When I visited Northern Farm for inspection, I liked him and he got in my short list," Ozasa said after the purchase. "It is another attraction that he is from a beautiful family. Although the price is higher than I thought, I did not want someone else to buy him. I want him to become a classic winner."







Lot 26 B or Br C Heart's Cry x Life For Sale by Not For Sale

Purchaser: Riichi Kondo Price: ¥230 million

Brother to a winner and half-brother to another winner out of Life For Sale a dual Group 1 winner in Argentina.

"My trainer, Yasuo Tomomichi, strongly recommends this colt", Riichi Kondo said after the purchase. "Heart's Cry is my favourite stallion and I am happy to add him in my string."

"I think he is a typical mile and half horse", Yasuo Tomomichi added. "And he is nice individual and good mover. This is my pick of the day".

Lot 72 B C American Pharoah x Crisp (USA) by El Corredor

Purchaser: Danox Ltd. Price: 180,000,000

From the first crop of yearlings by the Coolmore shuttler American Pharoah, this Northern Farm consigned colt is out of the Grade 1 Santa Anita Oaks winner Crisp (USA) who was purchased by Katsumi Yoshida at the 2016 Keeneland November Sales for $350k when carrying this colt.
