Stakes Next for Cyber Attack

Mark Smith - Saturday July 7

Aquis Farm has struck gold with the purchase of the General Nediym mare Marechal for $2650,000 from the Lime County Thoroughbreds draft at the 2017 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.

Lime County had purchased Marechal in New Zealand for just $22,000 two years earlier when in foal to Shamexpress.

Then along came Marechals' two-year younger half-brother Humidor.

The son of Teofilo won the Group 1 Australian Guineas and Lime County had a mare worth many multiples of her purchase price.

The Shamexpress colt foal was sold for $47,500 at the 2016 NZB Weanling Sale.

Marechal was put in foal to I Am Invincible and consigned to the National Broodmare Sale where she caught the eye of Aquis Farm/Blue Sky Bloodstock.

Her purchase price of $265,000 looked more than a sound investment 12 months later when Go Bloodstock Australia/Paul Moroney Bloodstock went to $400,000 for her I Am Invincible weanling colt.

But what of the Shamexpress colt?

The now 2yo gelding named Cyber Attack was sent to Tony Pike.

He broke his maiden at his third start then finished second in the Listed Futurity Stakes (1400m) at Te Rapa on June 9.

Racing up on the pace under Vinnie Colgan, Cyber Attack romped to a two and three-quarter lengths victory.

"He was very good today and getting more professional," Pike told NZ Racing Desk.

"He's strengthening up and he gave a good kick at the 200m. He was dominant at the finish.

"He might head to the Ryder Stakes and he could be a nice horse for the Wanganui Guineas.

"Obviously, the Ryder Stakes is at Awapuni and looking at the races there today the track is very deep and testing, which could be a concern.

"We could freshen him up and head to Wanganui."

There is plenty to look forward to as Marechal (pictured ), a great-granddaughter of the champion Habibti, is in foal to Written Tycoon.
