Million dollar debutant at Newcastle

Breednet - Saturday July 7
The Daily Debutants list shows a well fancied million dollar cot set to make his debut at Newcastle this afternoon.

Lion's Head's yearling shotThe Peter and Paul Snowden trained Lion's Head runs in race four and sits as the equal favourite in the early markets after winning his latest barrier trial at Hawkesbury late last month.

By Snitzel out of the American mare Tara From The Cape, Lion's Head was bought by China Horse Club at last year's Inglis Easter Yearling Sale for $1million from the Arrowfield Stud draft.

Tara From The Cape is a stakes winning in the US and was twice fourth at Group One level, including in the Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf event.

Another interesting runner at Newcastle, although not nearly as well fancied is the grey Sydney Blue, a $420,000 Inglis Easter buy for Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott from Mill Park Stud.

By Sebring out of Dane Belltar, Sydney Blue is a half-brother to five winners including Caulfield Cup winner Fawkner.

He's a $17 chance in the morning markets so perhaps a winning debut may not be highly anticipated however the pedigree says stay and he's already been gelded so it may be the start of a long career if he comes up to anywhere near his siblings, which also includes Adelaide Cup winner Tanby.
