Three in a Row for Jimmy Choux's The Bostonian

Mark Smith - Saturday June 30

Following wins in the Listed Daybreak Lover Stakes at the Sunshine Coast and the Singapore Airlines Stakes at Doomben, progressive New Zealand three-year-old The Bostonian stamped a highly profitable Queensland trip in Saturday's Group III Sunshine Coast Guineas.

Given a positive ride by Michael Cahill, The Bostonian defeated Bold Assassin by three-quarters of a length with Go Dixie a half-length back in third.

Winning trainer Tony Pike said it was a great finish to a campaign that started disastrously.

"It has been well documented we scratched him a couple of times early because of wide barriers and then he got bitten by a green ant or spider," Pike told AAP.

"We had to treat him and by the time he was ready to race the winter was pretty well over."

The Sunshine Coast Guineas has been a great springboard to future stakes success with the last four winners being Hopfgarten, Winks, Tivaci and Crack Me Up.

"It is obviously a step up for the Sydney and Melbourne races. But he has done what we wanted and deserves a chance. We will work out where when the dust settles," Pike said.

The son of Jimmy Choux advances his record to 6 wins and 1 second from 9 starts with earnings of $275,442.

A homebred for David Archer, The Bostonian is the third foal of the winning Keeper mare Keepa Cheval who is a half-sister to multiple Group 1 winner and NZ Horse Of The Year (King) Mufhasa (Pentire).

The Bostonian is a full-brother to the Chris Waller-trained Chaussure who was last seen winning consecutive races at Warwick Farm and Canterbury back in November 2016.

A Makfi colt out of Keepa Cheval was knocked down to Hong Kong's Alan Lee and Mr Danny Shum for $180,000 at this year's Premier Yearling Sale at Karaka.

Keepa Cheval has a weanling filly by Rip Van Winkle (IRE) and was bred back to Iffraaj (GB) last spring.

Jimmy Choux (pictured) stands at Rich Hill Stud where his 2018 fee has been set at $5,000.
