Strong Trade at Inglis Great Southern Opener

Media Release - Sunday June 17

Fastnet Rock continued a great sales season as lot 97, a weanling colt offered by Rosemont Stud, topped the opening day of the 2018 Inglis Great Southern Sale at Oaklands Junction.

$300,000 Fastnet Rock coltBhima Thoroughbreds and Kia-Ora Stud aligned forces, going to $300,000 to secure the colt.

Kia-Ora's Alex Kingston was ecstatic to purchase the colt, who will be re-offered as a yearling in 2019.

"We haven't got a Fastnet Rock for (next) year and he was a standout of this sale for us," Kingston said.

"He had a great walk and disposition, he has a beautiful head and I am really excited to be able to sell him.

"He is a beautiful, well-balanced, mature colt that obviously went through a nice preparation at Rosemont and he looked very well.

"He was our colt of the sale."

The first day of the sale saw 153 weanlings sold at an average of $27,454 and a clearance rate of 71%.

Inglis' Victorian Bloodstock Manager Simon Vivian was pleased with the overall results, especially at the top end.

"There was strong competition and we saw some fantastic results," Vivian said.

"There were many well sought after horses and it was great to see such a diverse buying bench, with great support from Australian, New Zealand and Chinese buyers.

"Demand for horses with good conformation and select sale pedigrees was most apparent, as expected, and with over 300 weanlings still to sell we look forward to more excellent sales."

Day two of the 2018 Inglis Great Southern Sale beings at Oaklands Junction 10am tomorrow.
