Stallion Syndicate Purchase $725,000 Too Darn Hot Colt

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday January 13

Too Darn Hot (GB) covered the best book of mares in the country last spring and his only yearling to be offered in the opening session of Magic Millions on Tuesday was duly snapped up by China Horse Club/Newgate & Partners for $725,000.

Consigned by Sledmere Stud on behalf of his breeder Jonathan Munz, the good looking colt is the second foal of blue-blood Frankel mare Beloved (IRE), a placed half-sister to Japanese Group I winner Deep Brillante from Group III winner Love and Bubbles.

$725,000 Too Darn Hot (GB) colt from Beloved (IRE).

“We like the stallion, out of a Frankel mare, bred by a great breeder in Jonathan Munz, he’s a no-nonsense kind of horse, very mature horse and we really liked him,” said Henry Field of Newgate Farm.

“We’ve had a lot of luck buying off the breeder, we bought Militarize off him and we bought a very good three-year-old this year called Providence, also from Jonathan Munz

“We thought he was one of the best colts today.”

Gai Waterhouse was quick to express her interest in training the colt and is certainly in the mix to add him to the Tulloch Lodge team.

“Gai and Adrian, they train for the partnership and Gai loved that horse, so it’s very possible,” Field said.

“We break them all in and we’ll go from there. But we’ve had a lot of success with Gai and Adrian through In The Congo and some great colts in our syndicate, so it’s possible.”

Beloved (IRE) was well bought from the 2022 Tattersalls December Mares Sale for 125,000 guineas.

Beloved was sourced from the Tattersalls December Mares Sale in 2022 for 125,000 guineas by Dean Hawthorne Bloodstock / Badgers Bloodstock and was in foal to a first season sire called Starman.

She produced a filly from that mating called Cosmic that remains unraced, but interestingly Starman went on to be Champion First Season Sire in 2025 and his service fee at Tally Ho has shot to 40,000 euros up from 10,000.

Beloved produced a colt last spring by Alabama Express, who was also bred and sold by Jonathan Munz, and was then covered by Harry Angel (IRE).

Too Darn Hot has six yearlings to be offered on Wednesday, two on Thursday and nine on Friday.
