Juvenile Trial Watch – Randwick

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday December 9

Four heats for juveniles at Randwick on Tuesday morning and brilliant filly Shiki will have tightened her grip on favouritism for the $3million Magic Millions 2YO Classic next month following this dazzling display.

Having her second trial this prep after a debut victory in the Group III ATC Gimcrack Stakes back in October, the Waterhouse Bott trained Shiki looked the consummate professional.

The flying daughter of Too Darn Hot  (GB) jumped quickly from an outside gate to lead for Tim Clark and sped clear to win by nearly five lengths.

Riverstone Lodge will be offering a half-sister by Ole Kirk to Shiki from Jest Excel at Magic Millions as Lot 405.

From a pedigree perspective there were two unraced big time watch fillies in this heat having their first look in Lone Piper and Rye Manhattan that finished out of the placings.

A homebred for Sir Owen Glenn, Lone Piper is an I Am Invincible filly from  blue hen Miss Debutante, who has given us Golden Slipper winner Lady of Camelot, plus Group winning fillies Platinum Jubilee and Queen of the Ball, who is also by I Am Invincible.

Trained by Chris Waller, she was clueless early and settled last, but made good ground in the straight and will have learned plenty from the experience.

Rye Manhattan is a homebred for Ron Finemore and this John O’Shea and Tom Charlton trained filly by The Autumn Sun is a three-quarter sister to dual Group I winner Shout the Bar. Pedigree says better at three and optimum at a mile, so whatever she does this season is a plus.

Running slightly quicker time than Shiki was another Too Darn Hot (GB) filly in Norman’s Cay, a homebred for Ron Finemore trained by the O’Shea/ Charlton partnership. She was having her second trial and was strong all the way through the line for Zac Lloyd, with Godolphin’s Exceed and Excel filly Emerald Isle closing off well in her first trial.

Norman’s Cay is the second foal of Westport, a juvenile stakes-winner by Not a Single Doubt.

The Waterhouse Bott stable have already sent Farnan colt Knightsbridge to the races once for a fifth in the Listed VRC Maribyrnong Trial and by the standards of this stable was given a very quiet trial here. He settled on the fence behind the leaders and was only asked to do something in the last 50m and won by a long neck.

Written Tycoon colt Sky Deck an interesting runner in the Yulong colours. He looked big and green settling last at his first attempt, but when he got himself organized found the line well and will take benefit from the experience.

Retained to race by Yulong, he’s the third foal from Group winning I Am Invincible mare Catch Me, who traces back to Eight Carat (GB) through the Marquise branch of the family.

Bred to be winning the best races in Europe, the Chris Waller trained Frankel colt Central Europe won this heat at his first public outing. Ridden by Zac Lloyd he was following the leaders and when switched into clear running in the straight started to lengthen stride.

Given a smack down the shoulder to straighten him and ask him to concentrate, Central Europe gave a solid response and ran straight through the line as a Frankel should.

A $750,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Chris Waller Racing / Mulcaster Bloodstock from Coolmore, Central Europe is the first Australian bred foal from Group I winning Kodiac mare Tiggy Wiggy, who was the Champion European 2YO Filly of 2014.

Tiggy Wiggy has had three winners in the Northern Hemisphere all by Galileo headed by G1 placed Year of the Tiger and she is a half-sister to the dam of Group I winning Wootton Bassett colt Maranoa Charlie, who will stand his first season at Tally Ho Stud in Ireland next year.

The latest yearling from Tiggy Wiggy is a St Mark’s Basilica colt that will be offered by Coolmore at Magic Millions as Lot 905.
