First Season Sire Winners at the MM Weanling Sale

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday May 30
A record breaking Magic Millions National Weanling Sale provided some strong results for first season sires, shedding some light on what we may see at the major yearling sales of 2019.

Coolmore duo Golden Slipper winner Vancouver and dual Group I winning two year-old Pride of Dubai are the obvious front runners of an interesting group and stood head and shoulders above their peers at this sale.

Vancouver set the pace with an average $140,000 with the highest priced yearling of his 14 sold being a stunning filly from Better Alternative consigned by Coolmore and bought by China Horse Club to dissolve their partnership.

The half-sister to multiple Group I winner Preferment and Group winner Rezoned added further merit to her dam, who will be offered as Lot 911 on Wednesday at the Broodmare Sale.

Pride of Dubai averaged $112,000 and his best result was a colt from stakes-winner Danehill Smile that made $210,000 for Coolmore when bought by James Bester.

Darley's Group I winner Exosphere had big numbers with 17 averaging $64,265, a promising start for a big stallion in terms of physical stature, who should certainly put plenty of size and scope into his offspring.

Best result for the powerhouse son of Lonhro was a colt from Love Her Madly that made $160,000 for Sledmere Stud when bought by James Bester.

Coolmore's Scat Daddy shuttler No Nay Never (USA) made an impression off the back of a flurry of early winners in the Northern Hemisphere. His four weanlings averaged $59,750, the top seller a filly from Alborada that made $90,000 for Erinvale Thoroughbreds to the bid of Glenvale Stud.

Special mention should be made of Headwater, Press Statement, Rich Enuff and Super One, who all had weanlings sell for $100,000 or more.

This Headwater colt from The Carnival sold for $170,000 to James Bester and was offered by Noralla Stud.
