Arrowfield Stud Secure Blueblood Mare for 1.3million Guineas

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday December 3

The second Sceptre Session of the Tattersalls December Mares Sale is underway and Arrowfield Stud have secured something seriously special with Jon Freyer bidding 1.3million to purchase Chere Darmoiselle, a half-sister by Kingman to Champion Sire Too Darn Hot.

Offered by Watership Downs Stud, who bred and raced Too Darn Hot, Chere Darmoiselle is an unraced four year-old mare and was offered in foal to leading French sire Zarak, who is a son of Dubawi as is Too Darn Hot.

Chere Darmoiselle (IRE) might be the dam of a future superstar in Australia!

"We will leave her here to foal and we will bring her home in the autumn which will be spring at home," said Jon Freyer.

"She has been bought for The Autumn Sun, who we stand. We are big fans of Too Darn Hot, we are sending him half a dozen mares this year, we love that family and the opportunity to buy a filly out of the family was too good to resist.

"We were stretched to do, we were hoping to buy her a fraction less than that, the ones with those sort of pedigrees you really have to stretch for and I am pleased that we did.

“We are all about getting these mares with these families and we will probably keep all the daughters going forward.”

The Autumn Sun

The Autumn Sun has been riding high in Australia this spring with his superstar unbeaten mare Autumn Glow winning the G1 Epsom Handicap and $10million Golden Rose, while his glamour three year-old colt Autumn Boy captured the $3million G1 Caulfield Guineas.

"He is now the leading sire, and he is going to be an important stallion, and with her line, the Kingman line, we can hopefully breed a stallion for the future," Freyer added.

Chere Darmoiselle is from triple Group I winner Dar Re Mi, daughter of another Group I winning blue hen in Darara.

The Autumn Sun should be happy to see this girl!

The sale continues.
