Casino Prince Stars in Singapore

Tara Madgwick - Monday May 28

Aussie  breds were in top form at the big Singapore meeting on Satruday with Vinery Stud's Casino Prince getting in on the act when his star sprinting son Lim's Cruiser took out the Group I Lion City Cup at Kranji for the second year in a row.

Lim's Cruiser - Singapore Turf ClubSingapore's reigning champion sprinter resurrected the electric turn of foot that was so lethal in last year's Lion City Cup (1200m). Angled across to the fence from an outside gate by Group 1 jockey Glen Boss, he speared through a narrow gap in the straight to cut down long-time leader Zac Kasa.

Boss had time to stand in the irons and salute the crowd in the $1 million feature sprint on Saturday night. "I was so confident until the bad draw but we got a good possie and I knew he would be hard to hold out when the run came.

"He's the best sprinter and his preparation has been faultless."

Lim's Cruiser is trained by Stephen Gray and has banked the equivalent of AUD 1.61 million for owner Lim Siah Mong. He's by Vinery sire Casino Prince from Hope Downs (Good Journey), an unraced daughter of South African Group 1 winning mare Battle Maiden.

A $100,000 buy at the 2015 Magic Millions National Racehorse Sale, he had won a Gold Coast trial for Gillian Heinrich before transferring to Singapore.

Casino Prince remains the value sire, bar none, in the Hunter Valley at a $9,900 (inc. GST) service fee. He's an Australian Top 10 sire this season with 95 individual winners of 133 races for earnings over $3.45 million.
