Aussie 2YO Double South Africa

Tara Madgwick - Monday May 28
Both juvenile events at Turffontein in South Africa on Sunday were won by homebred youngsters for Shaikh Hamdan's Shadwell Stud that were foaled and raised at Yarraman Park including a debut winner that is the first in South Africa for Darley's Epaulette.

The Mike de Kock trained Epaulette colt Soqrat ran out an easy three and a quarter length winner over 1160 metres at his first race start.

He is the second winner for Hussonet (USA) mare Elzeeza, a daughter of stakes-placed Lunasong from the family of Group I HK Chairman's Prize Sprint winner Lucky Bubbles and Group winners Gunnison, Colorado Claire, Selenium and Moonovermanhattan.

Winning the fillies division of the juvenile maiden by six and a half lengths at her second start was Soqrat's stablemate Firdoas, a half-sister by Bernardini (USA) to South African stakes performers Ataab and Fareeq.

She is the fifth winner from Azwa, a half-sister by Haafhd to South African Group II winner Mujarib.

Yakeen as a yearlingAustralian bred three year-old Teofilo (IRE) filly Yakeen was also on the winner's list at Turffontein scoring her third win from five starts when successful at 1600 metres.

Trained by Mike de Kock for Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, Yakeen was a $160,000 Inglis Premier purchase from the Yarran Thoroughbreds draft for Form Bloodstock.

Yakeen is the second winner from Reine, an unraced half-sister by Royal Academy (USA) to Group I winner and sire Nadeem from dual Group I winner Candide.
