Stakes Smorgasbord at Caulfield This Saturday

Just when you thought the Victorian Spring Carnival was over the Melbourne Racing Club are serving up another day of stakes racing with an astonishing seven Black Type races on the card, plus the first running of the $400,000 MRC Whispering Angel Melbourne Classic (2000m) for 3YOs.

“It’s a day with something for everyone, and we encourage all to embrace the energy and spirit of the day. We’re proud to bring such an exciting and new experience to Caulfield, one that heroes the horse and allows racegoers to engage with the equine community both on and off the track," said MRC Chairman Cameron Fisher.

“Saturday’s ten-race program is a fantastic way to close out the season with the Group 2 Big Screen Company Zipping Classic and Whispering Angel Melbourne Classic, two feature events that promise high-quality competition.”

A strong field has been assembled for The Big Screen Company Zipping Classic (2400m), headlined by Australian Cup winner Light Infantry Man. As Saturday’s feature race, held at Group 2 level, $750,000 in prize money will be on offer, proving a sweet cap to the season.

Another six stakes races will be staged at Caulfield, offering a stacked card of black-type racing racing, as well as the first running of the Whispering Angel Melbourne Classic for three-year-olds.

Ranch Roundup returns to the General Admission precinct, where special guest and 2025 Sportsbet Caulfield Cup Winner Jamie Melham will take to the arena to wow crowds between races 6 and 9, taking the reins for cutting, roping and all-around horsemanship skills.

St Kilda star and hobby milliner, Jack Sinclair, will host a cowboy-hat making masterclass at 12:25pm, finishing two bespoke hats that will be given away to lucky racegoers on the day.

Food enthusiasts can enjoy a return from Red Gum BBQ, serving country fare alongside local vendors. Nearby R.M. Williams will offer complimentary hat steaming and belt fitting, along with a unique look into the heritage brand’s iconic Outback history.

Family friendly entertainment for young racegoers includes free pony rides, an animal farm, complimentary face painting and interactive Cowkid Hour sessions.

After the last, home-grown Australian country-rocker, Brad Cox, takes to the stage to serenade racegoers with his unmistakable sound.
