One to Watch - Geelong

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday November 26

By champion sire I Am Invincible from Group I winning sprinter Volpe Veloce, this lightly raced three year-old filly was an eye-catching maiden winner at Geelong on Wednesday.

Trained by Matt Laurie and ridden by Jamie Mott, Lady Verity was resuming from a short break after second placings at Ballarat and Sale in July and August.

Sent off favourite in the 1114m maiden, Lady Verity always had the race in her keeping and skipped away to win by two lengths in a dominant display.

“She travelled well in front although was still a little bit new and might have been better following, but she was much too good for these today,” said Jamie Mott.

“I liked her last time and she had a great preparation although without winning.

“She’s no doubt come back better, a little bit bigger and stronger, and she’s just a very professional filly that can be placed well going forward.”

A $450,000 Inglis Easter purchase for M Laurie / P Morgan from the Longwood Thoroughbred Farm draft, Lady Verity runs for Michael Drapac’s Sustainable Thoroughbred Breeding.

She is the second foal and winner from Group I winning Foxwedge mare Volpe Veloce, who won 12 races in a glittering career in NZ and is a sibling to Raposa Rapid and Delago Bolt.

Volpe Veloce sold for $1million at MM National this year and $1.9million at the same sale in 2021 as pictured - image MM.

Volpe Veloce was sold this year at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale by Longwood Thoroughbred Farm in foal to I Am Invincible for $1million to Trives Bloodstock. It was her second trip around the Gold Coast sale ring having made $1.9million in 2021 when bought by Sheamus Mills Bloodstock (FBAA)/Longwood Thoroughbred Farm/Peter Morgan.

She produced a filly foal by I Am Invincible for her new owners last month.
