Winning Debut for $2.2million Zoustar Filly

The highest priced yearling by champion sire Zoustar sold in 2024 when fetching $2.2million at Inglis Easter, Plaintiff made her debut in a fillies maiden at Rosehill on Wednesday and came away with a stylish victory.

Trained by Peter Snowden and ridden by Tommy Berry, Plaintiff had the benefit of two recent trials and was well prepared for this 1200m assignment with punters sending her off as favourite.

She enjoyed a good run in transit settling one out and one back and when asked to join in  and take the lead was able to surge clear and win by more than a length.

Bred by Widden in partnership and consigned to Inglis Easter in their draft, Plaintiff was purchased by James Harron Bloodstock on behalf of John Camilleri’s Fairway Thoroughbreds.

Peter Snowden was well satisfied to get a good result with an expensive filly that has her share of talent.

“I think she's better ridden quiet, but the track's been playing dynamite up on speed, and she was too short a price to be taking risks, so we decided to take bad luck out and put her in a good spot, Tommy rode her well,” said Snowden.

“She’s had a few injuries and setbacks so it’s all about educating her now and we’ll see how far we go this time.

“It will probably depend on how well she does in the yard, but she's got so much upside to her.

“She's very, very raw. She's a beautiful type, very well bred, and it’s good to have a nice horse for John Camilleri.”

Tommy Berry is a fan of Plaintiff and believes there are better things to come.

“She'd been very pleasing in what she'd done at home, but the only time she's been let off the bit was for that second trial, hence why I gave her a tickle around the bum just to get her to stretch out because she's very raw at the moment,” he said.

“We saw that again today; she got to about the 80 metre mark there. You'll notice she changed her legs again. That's when she's probably had enough, so I think we will see a lot of improvement from her and next prep we will see her at her best.”

Plaintiff was the third highest priced yearling sold at Inglis Easter in 2024.

Plaintiff is the second winner from three foals to race from Group I Tatts Tiara winner Prompt Response, who won over $1.6million with a resume packed with additional Group wins and placings.

Sadly, she did not have another foal after Plaintiff and died earlier this year.
