Juvenile Trial Watch – Rosehill

Tara Madgwick - Friday October 24

The Rosehill trials on Friday morning featured a couple of juvenile heats and both winners came out of the Widden Stud draft at Magic Millions with one topping the sale at $2.8million and the other selling for a modest $150,000.

The Next Episode is the highest priced yearling ever sold at the Gold Coast.

Trained by Ciaron Maher and ridden by Jason Collett, Snitzel colt The Next Episode is the equal highest priced yearling by his much missed late champion sire ever sold and showed the speed expected in his first public trial.

He did everything right to follow the leader and then surged past to win the 900m dash by more than two lengths.

The Next Episode was purchased by Ciaron Maher and runs for a syndicate that includes his breeders and Newmarket based investor Phil Cunningham of Rebel Racing in whose colours he runs.

The colt is a half-brother to Group III placed Price Tag and is the second foal of Group III winner Humma Humma, a half-sister by Denman to stakes-winner Tycoon Humma.

The second heat was also won by Ciaron Maher and Jason Collett, but this time with Trapeze Artist filly Spicy Miss in the Darby racing colours. She sat off the pace and then worked through along the fence to score a narrow win in slightly slower tome than the previous heat.

Spicy Miss was a $150,000 MM purchase for Darby and is the second named foal of Sweet Gisel (USA), an imported Street Boss mare with a US Black Type family.
