Just when Brisbane trainer Robert Heathcote didn’t think his day could get any better after stable favourite Rothfire won the $2million Group III ATC Sydney Stakes at Randwick, it did with bonny mare Abounding taking out the Group II MRC Tristarc Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield.
Woodside Park Stud’s Rich Enuff is somewhat of a quiet achiever producing a steady stream of winners and his star performer is flashy mare Abounding, who showed her class with a classy victory.
Ridden by Blake Shinn, Abounding charged to the line to power clear and win by a length running away with connections now considering a start in the Group I VRC Empire Rose Stakes (1600m ) next month at Flemington.
"It's been a great day, delighted to win on this horse for First Light Racing, Rob Heathcote and his team. You wouldn't get a more consistent and honest mare to ride, just tries her best. Her last two runs put the writing on the wall for today and I'm just pleased to get the result for the connections on a great day of racing,” said Blake Shinn.
" I just had to extricate out. The speed in the first two hundred (metres) or so was quicker than I expected but I just allowed her to relax, find her groove, and then into the straight she just came underneath me nicely and proved too strong.
"Great day for the Heathcote stable, their old boy Rothfire won in Sydney which was great to see and for this girl to win, it's a testament to Rob and his stable, I'm just delighted to team up with them."
Abounding was a $75,000 Magic Millions Book 2 purchase from Telemon Thoroughbreds for First Light Racing/Robert Heathcote Racing and has the overall record of six wins and 12 placings from 27 starts with prizemoney topping $2.7million.
Bred by Telemon Thoroughbreds, she is the best of four winners from seven foals to race from Group II placed Casino Prince mare Transonic, who has foaled this spring producing a colt by Red Resistance.
Abounding is the best of nine stakes-winner for Rich Enuff, who stands at a fee of $13,200.
