Inglis Record Breaking Select Yearling Sale Season Concludes

Media Release - Monday May 14

A successful Scone Yearling Sale has brought to an end a second consecutive record breaking Inglis Select Yearling Sale season.

At the conclusion of the Scone Sale at White Park today, Inglis had sold 2079 yearlings in 2018 at a clearance rate of 86%, average of $116,560 and gross of $242,239,000.

The gross figure sees Inglis beat its own record from 2017 ($219,410,250) for an Australasian Yearling Sale season and further cemented itself as a dominant yearling market leader.

The Scone Yearling Sale (Book 1) ended with 163 horses sold at an average of $16,445, and a clearance rate of 84%.

Vendors were again the big winners in 2018.

Fastnet Rock colt from The Broken ShoreEleven vendors grossed $5m or more through Inglis Yearling Sales headed by Arrowfield Stud ($22,485,000 at 91% clearance rate) then Coolmore Stud ($12,830,500 at 94%), Segenhoe Stud ($8,618,500 at 92%), Widden Stud ($8,390,500 at 90%), Yarraman Park Stud ($8,263,000 at 93%) and Newgate Farm ($8,127,500 at 91%).

Eleven vendors sold a yearling for $1m or more, led by Arrowfield Stud with eight, including the season's top priced yearling, a Fastnet Rock x The Broken Shore colt which sold for $2.3m at Easter (pictured).

Inglis sold 22 of the 33 $1m+ yearlings sold at Southern Hemisphere yearling sales. Sixty-three vendors enjoyed a 100% clearance rate across all their yearling offerings through Inglis in 2018. Inglis' General Manager of Bloodstock Jonathan D'Arcy said the company was excited to build on what had been another solid year of yearling sales.

"The 2018 Inglis select yearling sale season has thrown up some challenges but overall it has been a satisfying year," D'Arcy Said.

"Among several highlights were the 34% growth at the Classic Yearling Sale and the broad spread of buyers at the top end of the Easter Yearling Sale.

"While Easter and Premier were marginally down on the previous year, they were both still very strong yearling sales, both clearing 85% amd grossing the second highest figures on record at both venues.

"We are looking forward to especially revealing some new initiatives and incentives ahead of the Premier Yearling Sale as we look to work with all our clients to ensure we continue with ongoing success.

"I'd like to commend and thank vendors who entrusted us with their yearlings and were prepared to meet the market in the majority of cases throughout the year."

Buyers' attention now switches to the Inglis Great Southern Sale at Oaklands Junction, which runs for the five days of June 17-21.

The Great Southern Sale catalogue will be available within the next week.
