So You Think Filly Wins G2 Edward Manifold

Tara Madgwick - Saturday October 4

Danny O’Brien believes he has the Group I VRC Oaks in his sights with So You Think filly Getta Good Feeling breaking her maiden in the best way possible with a last stride win in the Group II VRC Edward Manifold Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on Saturday.

Placed at her first three starts, Getta Good Feeling had to make a quantum leap in class from a last start second in a Sale maiden, but she handled the class rise in the manner of a filly going places fast.

Ridden by Billy Egan, she got caught up in traffic and her hopes looked forlorn, but when clear Getta Good Feeling let down with a powerful turn of foot to snatch a head win over race favourite Just a Journey, a daughter of Justify (USA).

“"She's our filly for the Oaks this season, so we always planned to get her here for the Wakeful and the Oaks,” said Danny O’Brien, who scratched her from an easier race midweek to come to Flemington.

"When we drew well here we thought she'd be very competitive and also to give her a look at Flemington before Cup Week. It was hard (to make the decision).

"She was going to be a good thing beaten. Unfortunately she was in a bit of traffic when the race got moving and Billy had to wait and wait and wait. When things got moving she hit the line and we've seen a little glimpse of what she'll be able to do when she gets to a Wakeful and an Oaks.”

Next stop will be Caulfield with the team undecided whether to go to the Group I MRC Thousand Guineas (1600m) or the Group III MRC Ethereal Stakes (2000m).

"She'll run at Caulfield. The Thousand Guineas and the Ethereal are on the same day but I'll have a chat to Jonathon (Munz). She's nommed for the Thousand Guineas and we'll decided which one she runs in closer to the date."

Getta Good Feeling was a $525,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Milburn Creek draft for Dean Hawthorne Bloodstock and runs for Jonathan Munz’s Pinecliff Racing.

Getta Good Feeling was a $525,000 Inglis Easter purchase.

She was a successful pinhook having been bought for $400,000 at the Magic Millions from the Phoenix Broodmare Farm purchase for Suman Hedge Bloodstock.

Getta Good Feeling is a three-quarter sister to Group III winner Elliptical and is the best of four winners from four foals to race from Marquise da Rossa, a winning Testa Rossa mare from the family of Golden Slipper winner Marauding.

Marquise da Rossa was bought by Yulong for $675,000 at the 2023 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale and has a yearling filly by Alabama Express and slipped last spring to Pierata.

Getta Good Feeling is the 66th stakes-winner for So You Think, who stands at Coolmore this spring at a fee of $44,000.
