The second day of the Goffs Orby Yearling Sale took off overnight with three individual yearlings selling for a million or more with the full sister to dual Group I winning champion 2YO Colt Blackbeard selling for €1.9 million to MV Magnier.
By No Nay Never, one of Europe’s leading sires, the Glenvale Stud consigned filly is out of Muirin, who has had four foals to race and all are winners with Blackbeard joined by this season’s Group II winning juvenile Charles Darwin and stakes-placed Run Away.
“It’s a lot of money for a filly, but she’s a sister to Blackbeard, who was a very, very good horse, and to Charles Darwin, who Aidan really believes is a proper horse. She’s a valuable filly regardless of what she does on the racetrack,” said MV Magnier.
“She’s a lovely, strong, good-moving filly, and all the lads liked her.”
Amo Racing have been strong at the sales this year and secured a Night of Thunder filly from Group I winning Shalaa mare No Speak Alexander for €1million.
The filly was consigned by Mountarmstrong Stud.
“Night Of Thunder is a stallion who’s doing very, very well all across the world, and this filly has a page that speaks for itself. The mother is a Group 1 winner and the pedigree is strong all the way down. Benny (McElroy)and Ace really liked her – she’s a strong, good-moving filly and we’re delighted to have her,” said Kia Joorabchian.
Ben McElroy confirmed those thoughts.
“She’s a filly we won’t have to wait long on – very well put together, a great mover, and one we could see being ready to run by Royal Ascot,” said McElroy.
“For Kia, she’s another high-quality long-term investment as we continue to build a broodmare band with strong pedigrees both here and in the US.”
Amo Racing have purchased nine yearlings in total at this sale, five fillies and four colts.
“If you look at operations like Coolmore, Juddmonte and Godolphin, everything starts with a great broodmare band,” said Kia Joorabchian.
“We’re still in the early stages, so most of the fillies we’re buying now – here and in the States – are with that long-term goal in mind. We’ve got stallions such as King Of Steel, Persian Force, Mojo Star and Go Bears Go standing, and we’ll need these mares to support them in the years ahead.”
Also selling for 1million was the Lope de Vega filly from Wrood offered by the Castlebridge Consignment and knocked down to Hugo Merry for Blue Diamond Stud.
The filly is a half-sister to Group I winner Going Global, Group II winner Mitbaahy and stakes-placed Finans Bay.
Going Global was purchased by Yulong for $2.5million at the 2022 Fasig Tipton November Sale and sent to Australia where she had four starts, but failed to find top form. She was then bred to their stallion Alabama Express to Northern Hemisphere time and produced a colt in January this year.
Going Global was then covered again by Alabama Express in March and she and the colt have been sent back to the UK.
