A lookalike for his sire Star Turn, this Ciaron Maher trained colt made a winning debut at Seymour on Thursday as a hot favourite.
Ridden by champion jockey Mark Zahra, Star Trip lived up to the hype scoring a three-quarter length win in the 1000m maiden.
“He’s a big horse, so I just wanted to have him in a bit of clear running and get going at the right time, but when Celine's horse kicked forward I just had to navigate my way around her heels.
“From the 400m when I asked him for an effort he was going to be very tough to run down.
“He's very green still in amongst them and he's learning his craft, but he definitely has got the ability to go on from here for sure.”
A $280,000 Magic Millions purchase for his trainer from the Vinery Stud draft, Star Trip runs for a syndicate of stable clients and is the second winner from Joyful Journey, a winning half-sister by Shamardal (USA) to stakes-winner Landing from Group III winner Joy of Flight.
Star Trip was the highest priced colt by Star Turn sold in 2024.
Star Turn has had a strong start to the season with 13 winners and nearly added a new stakes-winner to his tally last week when Overriding ran second in the Listed Wyong Mona Lisa Stakes.
He also had a winning double at Happy Valley on Wednesday evening.
Star Turn is well priced this spring at Vinery Stud at a fee of $16,500.
