Promising Winner and a Star on the Rise

Tara Madgwick - Thursday August 28

One of the bargain priced sires on the Newgate Farm roster, Cosmic Force has never lacked for company covering 100 plus books of mares in each of his five seasons at stud so far totalling nearly 700 mares.

The good looks that won over broodmare owners coupled with the legacy of his retired Champion Hong Kong Sire Deep Field, have seen Cosmic Force become a popular option for breeders chasing something affordable with possible upside.

Cosmic Force had a new winner on Thursday when the Grahame Begg trained filly Eco Force produced a tenacious effort to break her maiden at Bendigo over 1100m.

Second on debut back in March, she was spelled after that and was second up into this assignment with the benefit of race fitness no doubt contributing to her win.

Headed in the last furlong she came again for Jordan Childs to score a half length win over the race favourite Yuuki.

A $50,000 Magic Millions Adelaide purchase from Murrulla Stud for Contract Racing, Eco Force is the first foal of Millington, a half-sister to Group III winner Graceful Anna.

With his oldest progeny just turned four, Cosmic Force has sired 37 winners that include four stakes-winners – Give Me Space (G3), Wonder Boy, Stay Focused and Cosmic Fire – with his SW to runner strike rate a more than respectable 4.8%.

That’s pretty good going for a sire whose service fee has ranged between $16,500 and $11,000 before going back to $16,500 for this spring.

Set to tackle the Group III ATC San Domenico Stakes (1100m) on Saturday at Rosehill is his ‘winter wonder’ Raging Force, who has won three of four starts including impressive wins at Randwick and Rosehill in June and July with Tommy Berry on board.

Peter Snowden will have him ready to fire on Saturday with Berry sticking solid to the speedy 3YO gelding who runs in the Darby Racing colours.

In early markets, Raging Force has been installed favourite ahead of a star studded field and from barrier four he will get every chance.
