Cheeky Contiki showed plenty of brilliance to kick away after turning for home and had enough left at the line to hold on and win the 1000m maiden by a head with Craig Newitt in the saddle.

Cheeky Contiki was passed in as a yearling by Murrulla Stud and retained to race and is the fourth winner from five foals to race from Backpacker Express, a half-sister to Group II winner Downhill Racer.

Bred by tTim and Celie Nolan, she is a full sister to former brilliant filly Drifting, who won both the Group III MRC Quezette Stakes and ATC Magic Night Stakes.

Drifting was offered at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale this year selling for $800,000 to Bahen Bloodstock.

She is the seventh winner since the start of the new season for Zousain, who stands at a fee of $27,500 this spring.
