One to Watch – Geelong

Tara Madgwick - Friday August 22

Rosemont Stud’s Hanseatic had a promising debut winner at Sandown on Wednesday in Humble Trader and he kept up the good work at Geelong on Friday when his stakes-placed filly Rohesia cast off maiden status in style.

Trained by the Lindsay Park Racing team, Rohesia chased home top class filly Within the Law when third on debut last spring in the $500,000 Inglis Banner RL and was then a luckless sixth in the $1million VOBIS Showdown in March won by McGaw.

Dropped back in class for a 1212m maiden with Mick Dee to ride, Rohesia was the top choice for punters and duly delivered the goods.

She was always in contention and was strong right through the line to score by the best part of a length over the Chris Waller trained Alabama Express filly Café Au Lait collecting some VOBIS bonuses for effort.

Rohesia was a $150,000 Inglis Premier purchase from Rosemont Stud for Lindsay Park Racing and runs for an all ladies syndicate that have already had some great returns from the talented filly.

“It's really nice to see these colours winning. They're family colours and were the Dulcify colours that were for Betty Hayes and it’s an all ladies' syndicate,” said Ben Hayes.

“She's been a fantastic horse for them, albeit she hasn't won. She picked up the $200,000 Inglis Pink Bonus in the spring and then ran a great race in the Showdown.

“She's always had little niggling injury issues, so it was so nice to get her maiden out of the way today so she can pick up focus and it’s onwards and upwards now.

“She looks like she pulled up well, and I thought she was strong through the line, which was really pleasing to see.”

Rohesia was bred by Fenrigg Farm and is the first foal and first winner for Vinni Rose, a winning half-sister by I Am Invincible to stakes-winner Centrefire from the family of Group I winner Mirjulisa Lass.

Rohesia is the seventh first crop winner for Hanseatic and is his second of the new season.
