Richard and Will Freedman probably have more talented horses in the stable than Pierro gelding Cold Brew, but few have the consistency of this four year-old who landed a winning hat-trick at Rosehill on Saturday.
Placed at four of his first five starts, Cold Brew broke his maiden at Hawkesbury in June, then won a Benchmark 64 at Newcastle last month before coming to town to roll the dice in a Benchmark 72 Midway event over 1400m.
Given a good ride by Jason Collett, Cold Brew revelled in the heavy 10 ground to skip away and win by three and a half lengths.
A $170,000 Inglis Premier purchase from Fernrigg Farm for Yong An Australia Pty Ltd, Cold Brew runs for Pro Racing managed by Will Freedman and has the overall record of three wins and four placings from eight starts with prizemoney just shy of $140,000.
Cold Brew is the first foal of Group III placed Fastnet Rock mare Connemara, a half-sister to stakes-winners Tawteen and Well Sprung from imported Group III winner Sprung (USA).
His sire Pierro is priced to please this spring at Coolmore at just $33,000 coming off last season when he sired 123 winners of over $8million.
A Golden Slipper winning champion son of Lonhro, Pierro represents exceptional value this year with nearly 72% lifetime winner to runner and six Group I winners among his 39 stakes-winners.
