Mulberry Racing are looking to make an impression with a string of lovely yearling purchases this year and the acquisition of an Everest slot and their colours were in the frame at Hawkesbury on Sunday carried by a 2YO son of Pierro.
Trained by Brad Widdup and ridden by Christian Reith, Tequisoda was having his second start and out the writing on the wall with debut second at Wyong earlier this month.
Stepped up to 1500m, punters rallied to the good looking colt and he duly powered home to win by three-quarters of a length over three year-old Pierro filly The Cristal.
Tequisoda was bred by Mike O’Donnell and sold through his Fairhill Farm draft at the Inglis Select Weanling Sale for $110,000 to Maluka Thoroughbreds, who re-offered him at Inglis Premier where he was bought by Brad Widdup for $160,000.
A half-brother to Group II placed Mexico, Tequisoda is the fifth winner from five foals to race from One More Tequila, a winning daughter of stakes-winner Tequila Knowledge.
Tequisoda is the 120th winner this season for Pierro, who is super value this spring at Coolmore at a fee of $33,000.
