A Spirit of Boom colt today became the highest-priced horse ever sold at an Inglis VOBIS Gold Yearling Sale.
Offered by Rosemont Stud, Lot 248 (Spirit of Boom x Moxie Doll) was the subject of a fierce bidding duel before eventually selling to Gelagotis Racing and Anthony Panozzo for $120,000.
"The stallion is doing incredible things and we're really thrilled to get a nice running style of a horse like him with a pedigree to run, by a stallion in the top three or four in Australia at the moment,'' Manny Gelagotis said.
Rosemont's Gerard Jones always believed the son of Spirit of Boom youngster was "the colt of the sale''.
"We're ecstatic with the result,'' Jones said.
"He's been out of his box all day today especially so I'm glad he can go back now and relax.
"He's typical of all the Spirit of Booms, really relaxed, no fuss. He took it all in his stride.
"It's really good that Manny got him. He's VOBIS qualified so it's great that he stayed home in Victoria.''

The top-priced filly of the day was Lot 201 (Toronado x Take All Of Me), purchased by Tony Ottobre of Boneo Horse Ranch for $85,000 from the Armidale Stud draft.
"The Toronado's, I really do like. I also like the High Chaparral side and I see a lot of High Chaparral in this filly,'' Ottobre said.
"She's a 3YO onwards type, mid distance, definitely not a sprinter. She's a very nice Classic type of racehorse.''
At the conclusion of the VOBIS Gold sale its average was $19,265 with a gross of $3,853,000 at a clearance rate of 79%.
The leading buyer by individual Lots purchased was the Alice Spring Turf Club (17) while by aggregate was Kane Harris.
Supreme Thoroughbreds was leading vendor by aggregate, selling 16 of their 19 horses for $479,000, while by average was Burnewang North (for three or more sold) at $52,500.
Top stallion honours went to Reward For Effort (by aggregate of $193,500) and Glass Harmonium (by average for three or more sold at $39,333).
Inglis' Victorian Bloodstock Manager Simon Vivian was satisfied with the day's trade, however noting it had its challenges.
"To be able to achieve a record price for the sale was very pleasing,'' Vivian said.
"The clearance rate was especially sticky for the first couple of hours while the sale found its feet but the second half probably went around 85% clearance through the ring which was satisfying. Private sales will see that advance to over 80%.
"There was great support here from the Victorian training bench, as well as NSW, South Australia and Tasmanian trainers too so I'm looking forward to seeing some fantastic results on the track from these horses from next year.''
All the yearlings sold today are eligible to be nominated for the $8m Inglis race series.
Inglis' next auction is the annual HTBA Scone Yearling Sale, held over two days of May 13 and 14 at White Park and complemented by an additional Weanling and Thoroughbred Sale.
