Mossman's Moss Trip Opens Stakes Account

Mark Smith - Saturday April 21

Triple Crown may have come up short with Mossman's $1,300,000 earner Dothraki in the Group III Hall Mark Stakes but they did not have to wait long to strike gold with a highly promising daughter of Mossman in the Group III JHB Carr Stakes (1400m) at Randwick.

Beaten one and a half-lengths when fifth behind Shoals in the Group 1 Surround Stakes at Randwick at her most recent start, Moss Trip charged home under Kerrin McEvoy to nail Dyslectic (Foxwedge) in the final stride with Manicure (Exceed And Excel) three-quarter of a length back in third. The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained 3yo filly is now likely to head to Queensland.

"We will have to think about things and see how she recovers. She's had a freshen up to get here today so we are mindful of that," Peter Snowden said.

"We will take stock of her next week but it's a great result today.

"She is a really nice honest filly who did a great job today.

"I thought she may have blown her chance when she missed the start but to her credit on a day when it's really hard to come from the back, and to run the time she did, she has done an amazing job."

A two-time veteran of the sales ring, Moss Trip was pinhooked by Balance Thoroughbreds for $12,000 out of the Widden Stud draft at the 2015 Inglis Easter Weanling Sale before making $32,000 to the bid of Triple Crown Syndications / Snowden Racing at the 2016 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

A three-quarter sister to the Group III winner and dual Group 1 placed Triple Elegance, Moss Trip is the second foal of the unraced Stratum mare Space Trip.

Purchased for a bargain basement $15,000 at the 2015 Inglis Easter Broodmare Sale when in foal to Excellebration (IRE), Space Trip subsequently foaled a filly that was purchased by Yulong Investments for $20,000 at the 2017 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale.

She had a colt foal by Toronado (IRE) that was purchased by Northern Lodge Thoroughbreds at this year's Inglis Premier Yearling Sale.

After missing to Toronado (IRE) in 2016, Space Trip was covered by the dual Group 1 winning son of High Chaparral again last spring.

Moss Trip becomes the 38th stakes-winner for Vinery Stud's overachieving Mossman who covered just three mares at his 18th season at stud last spring.
