First Win for Miracle Foal

Tara Madgwick - Thursday April 19
The feel good foaling story of the year in 2014 revolved around Group I South Australian Oaks winner Asia, who had delivered her first living foal at age 17 following a long and sorry history of not carrying foals to term.

Under expert care from the team at Hunter Valley nursery Berkeley Park, Asia finally became a mum producing a lovely filly by Dream Ahead (USA) in November 2014.

She grew and developed into an athletic yearling that made $60,000 when offered by Berkeley Park at Magic Millions with World Wide Bloodstock the successful bidder.

Sent to South Africa and named Laat Lammitjie, she placed at two of her first three starts before breaking through for her first win on Wednesday.

Trained by Dennis Bosch, she scored over 1600 metres at Greyville by three-quarters of a length as favourite.

Asia produced her second foal the following year, so has a two year old colt by All Too Hard that made $75,000 at Magic Millions last year when bought by Dermot Farrington.
