One to Watch – Gosford

Tara Madgwick - Thursday June 19

Hawkesbury trainer Blake Ryan is known for sourcing nice yearlings and turning them over at the two year-old breeze up sales, but a Written Tycoon colt purchased from Inglis Easter for $425,000 has remained in the stable and made a winning debut at Gosford on Thursday.

Just Awesome won his only two previous trials in May and at the start of June, so was sent out favourite for the 1100m maiden with Tommy Berry to ride.

He mustered well from barrier one and worked through to lead before kicking clear down the running and although inclined to race greenly when he thought the job was done, Just Awesome had plenty left to win by three-quarters of a length.

Bred and sold by Yulong, Just Awesome was bought by Goldfinder Equine / Colin Equine / Blake Ryan Racing at Inglis Easter and is a half-brother to Group III placed Miss Roumbini and is the third winner from three foals to race from Group III winning Fastnet Rock mare Bleu Roche.

Just Awesome was a $425,000 Inglis Easter purchase.

Bleu Roche had a filly by Alabama Express last year before going to Tagaloa.

Just Awesome is the eighth 2YO winner this season for Written Tycoon and four of those winners are stakes-winners – Skyhook, Tycoon Star, Military Tycoon and Scenic Point.
