One to Watch – Canterbury

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday June 18

There were some interesting maiden winners at Canterbury on Wednesday and they included the half-brother to Group II winner Stretan Angel who continued the current winning run for his young sire Brutal.

Trained by Jim and Greg Lee, Glorious Moments has always shown talent at the trials, but in two race starts last year in good company he failed to flatter with a last placed finish in the Group III ATC Pago Pago Stakes won by Dublin Down leading to him being gelded.

It was a new look Glorious Moments that returned in the 1250m maiden with Reece Jones to ride and he swept away the opposition to win by nearly two lengths.

Glorious Moments was an $85,000 Inglis Classic purchase from Kirks Bridge Farm for Shinkansen Bloodstock and is a half-brother to $1.1million earning Group II winner Stretan Angel, who is also three times G1 placed.

Glorious Moments was an $85,000 Inglis Classic purchase.

He is the third winner from Sretan, a placed half-sister by Bernardini (USA) to Group II placed Alegria (the dam of Group II winner Alegron) from Group III winner Pure Joy.

Sretan had a Wild Ruler yearling colt that sold at Inglis Easter this year in the Willow Park draft for $220,000 to Stokes Racing / Suman Hedge Bloodstock.

She produced a colt last spring by Stretan Angel’s sire Harry Angel (IRE) and is back in foal to him again.

Brutal sired his first Group I winner  this season in exciting 2YO colt Nepotism and stands at Newgate at a fee of $16,500.
