Placed at her first two starts in December last year, the Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman trained Mercurial Lady returned from a spell over 1200m at Ballarat on Friday.

Sent out a hot favourite with Carleen Heffel on board she turned the race into a procession when strolling clear to win by seven lengths.

It was a sit and steer job for Heffel, who was full of praise for Mercurial Lady.

“I might have to give Moods (Peter Moody) the riding fee for that, I reckon, or split it between him and Kat (Coleman). It was very easy for her today,” said Heffel.

“She's a pretty speedy mare. Her first two runs were at 1400 and I think she’ll get back there, but she seems pretty effective over this trip. She's been pretty sharp and she's on her best manners today.  She's put it together and it's a nice start to prep.

“She'll get a nice confidence boost out of that.”

Mercurial Lady was a $425,000 Magic Millions purchase from Newhaven Park for  Curran Bloodstock and runs in the Wanless family colours.

Bred by Newhaven Park, she is a half-sister to the star 2YO of the winer in Group II winner CooL Archie and is the sixth winner from six foals to race from Aware, a winning Tale of the Cat (USA) daughter of Group II winner Media tracing back to glamour filly Bravery, read about her legacy here.

Newhaven Park sold a Cool Aza Beel yearling filly from Aware at Magic Millions this year for $60,000 to Patriot Bloodstock/Wattle Bloodstock and she produced another colt by him last year and is back in foal again to the Group I winning son of Savabeel.
