Newhaven Park Confirm 2025 Fees

Media Release - Thursday May 29

One week after Newhaven Park bred, raised and sold Cool Archie recorded his second successive juvenile stakes race victory in the Group 2 Spirit of Boom Classic at Doomben, Newhaven Park stud principal John Kelly has confirmed the 2025 service fees for the first-crop 2-year-old’s sire Cool Aza Beel (NZ), as well as the farm’s two associate stallions Xtravagant (NZ) and Mo’Unga (NZ).

One of the most prominent freshman sires of the 2024/25 racing season, Cool Aza Beel is matching strides on the First Season Sires listings with all of his contemporaries — some of which have received elevated fees for the 2025 breeding season ahead.

Cool Aza Beel remains at $16,500, click for more info.

However, Kelly has decided to keep Cool Aza Beel’s fee at $16,500 (inc. GST) — consistent with the four previous seasons the emerging son of Savabeel has served so far in his exciting stud career.

As Kelly explained:  “Breeders are finding it difficult at the moment, especially at the middle and lower end of the market, but when a horse like Cool Aza Beel is going well, it gives everyone hope.

“Cool Aza Beel has stayed at the same fee for his first four seasons, and the people who have got weanlings by him and mares in foal to him will be pleased with his success so far. It’s not just Cool Archie; he has four winners, and Cobra Club was beaten a whisker from the outside barrier in the Inglis Nursery.

“So we’ve been very encouraged with Cool Aza Beel’s results. But, that said, we’re going to remain conservative with his fee this year. We want broodmare owners to have an opportunity to do well with us, so he’ll be staying at the same price.”

Xtravagant stands for $11,000, click for more info.

Despite demand for the progeny of fellow Newhaven Park stallion Xtravagant remaining particularly strong during the current yearling sale series, Kelly confirmed that the proven sire of Group winning progeny will stand the upcoming season at a fee of $11,000 (inc. GST) — even in light of some very notable results for the breed at the beginning of the year.

Yearlings by Xtravagant sold to $280,000 at the 2025 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale and $180,000 at the 2025 Inglis Classic Sale. Additionally, no fewer than 11 of the combined Xtravagant yearling draft sold for between $280,000-$105,000, having been bought by some of the country’s leading stables including those of Ciaron Maher, Ben, Will & JD Hayes, Annabel & Rob Archibald and Richard & Will Freedman.

Explaining the reasoning behind his decision to reduce Xtravagant’s fee (from $16,500), Kelly stated: “We had a great year with his yearlings going into good stables. But he’s battling to find his place in the market, even though he is doing a good job with the likes of inaugural $1 million The Meteorite winner Nadal.”

However, Kelly is quick to add that the indications are that the stallion’s best results clearly wait ahead with such a high calilbre of yearling entering such a solid number of leading training establishments in very recent months.

Mo'Unga stands for $25,000, click for more info.

Newhaven Park’s dual Group 1 winning son of Savabeel, Mo’Unga (NZ) is heading towards his second season at stud and will stand at a fee of $25,000 (inc. GST).

“His first foals are due this spring and he got a great book of mares in his first stud season,” remarked Kelly. “He received strong support from his shareholders, and we sent him Media, the grand-dam of Cool Archie, as well as the likes of Group 2 Reisling winner Frolic, Group 2 Angus Armanasco winner Lavish Girl, and dual Group 1 winner English.”

In addition to covering mares from many of Newhaven Park’s multi-generational families, other revered breeders to have supported Mo’Unga in his first season include the Whites of Robrick Lodge, the Taits of Twin Hills, the Norths of Bowness Stud, and iconic trainer come breeder-owner Neville Begg.
