One to Watch – Newcastle

Tara Madgwick - Monday May 26

A day after her older half-brother Anamoe topped the sire averages (three or more sold) at the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale, this Godolphin blue-blood filly opened her account in style.

Trained by James Cummings and ridden by Grant Buckley, three year-old Blue Point (IRE) filly Blue Willow was having her third race start in the 1400m maiden and made light of the heavy 10 track.

Placed at her first two starts, Blue Willow was a heavily backed favourite and won as expected, chiming in with a big finish to surge clear and win by three lengths.

She’s no champion like big brother Anamoe, but she’s a winner and is the sixth from eight foals to race out of Group I SAJC Australasian Oaks winner Anamato.

Anamato was at stud for Godolphin in the Northern Hemisphere for several years and in the that time produced the stakes-winner Anamba (Shamardal) and the minor winner Amuletum (GB), who was on-sold and sent back to Australia.

Amuletum has also been a success at stud producing Group II winner Tiz Invincible, who was sold at the recent Inglis Chairman’s Sale for $2.8million to Tom Magnier.

Anamato died earlier this year and her last foal is a yearling colt by Street Boss (USA) that is a full brother to Anamoe…. Now that’s going to be a two year-old to watch closely for next season!
