First Season Young Guns at Inglis Easter

Tara Madgwick - Friday April 13
One of the most interesting aspects of the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale is always the performance of first season sires and this year it was I Am Invincible's first son to go to stud, Brazen Beau that finished on top by average for three or more sold.

Darley based Brazen Beau achieved the highest average with six yearlings averaging $351,667.

His top seller was the stunning filly from blue hen Pretty Penny that made $700,000 for Coolmore when secured by McEvoy Mitchell Racing.

Newgate Farm's Deep Field has been a big player at all the major sales this year and was next on the list with eight yearlings averaging $295,000.

His best result was Segenhoe Stud's colt from Group II winner Jolie Bay that made $530,000 when bought by Lucky Owners Pty Ltd.

Newgate Farm's other top young gun Dissident produced the highest single sale for any first season sire when his colt (below) from Assail made $800,000 for Newgate Farm when bought by China Horse Club/ WinStar Farm.

Special mention again should be made of Coolmore's Rubick, who posted a great result for Edinglassie Stud when his filly from My Amelia sold for $420,000 to Paul Perry.

First season sires increasingly find it hard to gain traction at Inglis Easter where the big buyers focus on the progeny of the big four – Snitzel, Fastnet Rock, I Am Invincible and Redoute's Choice. To make an impact you need a seriously good individual.

Brazen Beau has a slight fee reduction for 2018 and will stand at $38,500 at Darley Victoria, while Deep Field ($22,000), Dissident ($33,000) and Rubick ($17,600) remain unchanged from last year.
