Pierro Mare Queen of Dragons Headlines Late National Broodmare Entries

Media Release - Thursday May 22

Group winning mare Queen of Dragons is among five new late entries for the first day of the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale on Tuesday.

An acceptor for Saturday's Group Three $200,000 Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Mile (1600m) at Doomben on Saturday, Queen of Dragons will be presented as an elite racing and breeding prospect through the Newgate Consignment, as agent for Trilogy Racing.

Queen of Dragons will be offered at MM National Broodmare Sale next week.

The Peter Snowden prepared daughter of Pierro is already a winner of the Group Three Kembla Grange Classic and has banked over $328,000 in prizemoney.

Queen of Dragons was close up in black type races at two, three and four. She was beaten a nose in the Listed TAB Trophy at Flemington and was fourth in a Group One Vinery Stud Stakes at Rosehill.

She is a full sister to the Group Two Percy Sykes Stakes winner Paris Dior, who sold for $1.6 million as a breeding prospect at the 2023 Gold Coast National Broodmare Sale.

Paris Dior sold for $1.6million at MM National in 2023 to Tom Magnier.

Both Paris Dior and Queen of Dragons are from the city winning Exceed and Excel mare Entrancing, a daughter of the juvenile stakes performer Coast to the Post, while their third dam is none other than Nanny Maroon.

"It's been a real privilege to be involved with Queen Of Dragons from the very beginning," Trilogy Racing's Racing and Bloodstock Manager Colum McCulloch said.

"I had the honour of working closely with her during my time as Racing Manager for Peter & Paul Snowden, having watched her develop from a yearling right through to her Group-class performances on the track."

"Mentally, she was as professional as they come - much like her full sister Paris Dior - and she has continued to strengthen and furnish with every preparation. She's a mare who is genuinely still on an upward trajectory, and her best racing days may well still be ahead of her."

"Her winning performance in the Group Three Kembla Grange Classic was a standout, stamping her A-grade talent in a key lead-up to the Group One Vinery Stud Stakes, where she finished a close-up fourth behind Orchestral, Tutta La Vita and VRC Oaks winner Zardozi, with less than 1.5 lengths separating her from the placings."

"For Jason and Melanie Stenning and Sean and Cathy Dingwall, it's a very special moment to offer a mare of her calibre at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale."

"She ticks every box - pedigree, physicality, and race performance - and she's brought the ownership group a huge amount of joy. We're excited for what we hope will be a busy few days of parading ahead of Tuesday, and I've no doubt she’ll be extremely well received by the market."

Queen of Dragons is one of three stakes performers who have today been added to the latest supplementary catalogue.

She is joined by the four time winner and quarter of a million dollar earner Avone (Spirit of Boom) and the three time winner and Group Two Sapphire Stakes placed Ballroom Bella (Russian Revolution) who are in the Kenmore Stud and Widden Stud drafts respectively.

The lightly raced and winning Capitalist mare Giliana will be offered through the Eureka Stud draft. She is a half sister to Group winner Garibaldi.

Te Akau Stud have also supplemented the beautifully related triple winner Bella Voce (Fastnet Rock). She will join draft mates including Campionessa and Wolverine in the International Section at the end of Day One action on Tuesday.

"We are thrilled with the quality of stock we have to offer over the upcoming National Sale here on the Gold Coast," Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch said.

"There's a wonderful line up of weanlings on the grounds ahead of Day One on Sunday."

"The latest additions to the National Broodmare Sale, headlined by Queen of Dragons, add further depth and quality to what is an outstanding selection of racefillies and mares."

"There's going to be so many opportunities for buyers at all levels of the market across the National Weanling, Broodmare and Yearling Sales and we look forward to welcoming all prospective buyers to the Gold Coast over the next couple of weeks," Bowditch added.
