Tara Madgwick - Wednesday April 11
Gooree Stud homebred Gem Song opened his career with a determined win at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

Your SongThe Kris Lees trained son of Your Song showed good pace to race up with the leaders and kicked clear turning for home, before holding off a strong challenge from Lonhro filly Colombina to win the 1200 metre maiden by a long head.

Gem Song is a half-brother to Singapore stakes-winner The Omega Man and is the third winner from Group II winning Peintre Celebre (USA) mare Beautiful Gem.

The family appears at the Inglis Broodmare Sale next week with Davali Thoroughbreds offering Lot 190, Empire Express, a half-sister to Gem Song.

Gem Song looks a bright prospect for the future and is a likely type for Your Song, who is third on the Australian Second Season Sires list behind only Pierro and All Too Hard.

The Widden Stud based son of Fastnet Rock was popular with breeders last spring riding on the back of his overwhelming success with his first crop of two year-olds last season.
