One to Watch – Pakenham

Tara Madgwick - Thursday May 15

Grahame Begg has been very patient with this expensive I Am Invincible two year-old filly and on Thursday found a suitable race in which to kick her off with happy results all round.

Biologics is a stunning dark brown filly that was a standout in  the mounting yard at Pakenham and ran up to her good looks in the 1200m maiden when starting a short priced favourite.

Given a quiet ride early by Jordan Childs, she unleashed a brilliant finishing burst that saw her zoom past her rivals to win by more than two lengths running away.

Grahame Begg couldn’t hide his enthusiasm for Biologics, who he believes has spring potential.

“She wasn't really gunned up to win tonight, don't worry. She had a couple of little soft jump outs and we decided to bring her here to get on the big track on a good surface and to be able to ride her where she was going to be comfortable,” Begg revealed.

“She's a filly that we've always felt that's going to get over possibly 1,400 up to 1,600 metres, but she's put her hand up to come to the races tonight.

“Most of the other two-year-olds we've got, we've turned them out. But this filly kept going forward and she'll go for a break after tonight.

“It's a great result for Pinecliff and Jonathan Munz, he paid a lot of money for her. He spent a lot of money on fillies last year and again this year, so it's great to start off the right way.”

Biologics was a $700,000 Inglis Easter purchase .

Biologics was a $700,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Dean Hawthorne Bloodstock from the Coolmore draft on behalf of Jonathan Munz, whose familiar colours were carried to several Group wins by another star Grahame Begg trained mare in Passive Aggressive.

Biologics is a half-sister to Group II winner Parure and is the fourth winner from five foasl to race from Group II winner Fontein Ruby, a half-sister to Group I winner The Mitigator.

Coolmore sold a yearling filly by Home Affairs from Fontein Ruby at Inglis Easter this year for $200,000 to Flash Conroy and she is now back in foal to Home Affairs after missing to hims the previous year so will produce a three-quarter sibling to Biologics this spring.

Biologics is the tenth two year-old winner this season for I Am Invincible and half of them are stakes-winners led by Group I winning colt Vinrock.

Yarraman Park’s champion sire I Am Invincible is priced at $220,000 this spring.
