Newgate Turn a Quick Profit with $1million for Eagle Nest

Tara Madgwick - Thursday May 8

Newgate Bloodstock made a savvy investment at the Inglis Chairman’s Sale last year paying $300,000 for stakes-placed Shalaa (IRE) mare Eagle Nest and 12 months on they were rewarded when selling her for $1million.

A stunning type that made $550,000 at Inglis Easter as a yearling back in 2021 when bought by  IRON / George Moore Bloodstock from Segenhoe Stud, Eagle Next struck career best form in her current preparation for Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou  winning the Group III ATC Maurice McCarten Stakes.

A half-sister to Group III winner Kalashnikov from a prolific Black Type family she was bought by leading Japanese breeder Katsumi Yoshida.

“We thought she was a really nice mare. We liked her form last year, felt she was improving all the time and were happy to get her last year for $300,000 and with a great partnership,” said Henry Field.

“She had a great year in training to win a G3 and another stakes race with her and some good prize money and sell her for a million tonight. It's been a good bit of trading for our partners and the farm

“She was sort of one of those late-maturing sort of mares that really has found her feet in the last racing season. Very pretty mare and a very fast mare, so I'll follow her career and I think they'll do very well with her.”
