First Winner for Unencumbered

Tara Madgwick - Sunday April 8
Just weeks after Three Bridges Thoroughbreds announced the premature passing of their young stallion Unencumbered, the Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner has delivered his first winner with an Echuca success for Expedius.

UnencumberedTrained by Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young, Expedius was spelled and gelded following an unplaced debut in the spring and returned with an encouraging third at Ballarat last month.

He showed the benefit of that outing when leading throughout and kicking on strongly to win the 1200 metre maiden by a short neck.

An $80,000 Magic Millions purchase for Busuttin Racing from the Marquee Stud draft, he was a successful pinhook having first been bought for $60,000 by Marquee from the Three Bridges draft at the MM National Weanling Sale.

A brilliant son of Testa Rossa, Unencumbered died last month, but covered 102 mares last spring.
