$1.1million Fastnet Filly a New SW for Sheamus Mills Bloodstock

Tara Madgwick - Saturday May 3

Tara Talks Racing podcast listeners would have taken notice of the Listed SAJC Adelaide Guineas (1600m) at Morphettville on Saturday featuring $1.1million Fastnet Rock filly On Display.

She was purchased as a yearling by Sheamus Mills, who was our guest this week and is also in her ownership.

Dreadfully unlucky at her previous start when fourth beaten half a length in the Group II SAJC Queen of the South Stakes at 40-1, punters were awake to her potential this time around.

The Mick Price and Michel Kent Jr trained filly was sent off as second favourite with Ben Melham to ride and produced a dazzling last to first win to claim her first stakes success.

Back and wide coming out of the home turn, she zoomed past her rivals and raced away to win by a couple of lengths taking her overall record to two wins and two placings from eight starts with prizemoney topping $156,000.

The win was sweet following the disappointment of last week.

“It's a nice consolation, we've always liked this filly,” said Michael Kent Jr.

“Expensive purchase, gorgeous type, always had a big sprint on her. We've always looked forward to the mile on a big track and we saw last week when she was off about 70, way out of the handicap, she probably should have won.

"So it would've been a bit unfair if we didn't win today and I thought, I was a little bit concerned they were going no pace but it worked out well. Ben got a lovely cart in, just one big last sprint, and that's what she's good at."

On Display will be given further opportunity to race on next season.

We've looked after her and she hasn't had much luck to be fair. She's gone inside when the track's been playing outside and outside when the track's been playing inside,” Kent Jr said.

“This prep's been the making of her. I'd say we'll look after her now and bring her back for the spring. She'll just keep getting better and better. Big job done. Rapt for all the connections, they're massive supporters of ours and the industry. These wins are important."

On Display was a $1.1million Inglis Easter purchase from Lime Country Thoroughbreds.

Purchased by Sheamus Mills Bloodstock for $1.1million from the Lime Country Thoroughbreds draft at Inglis Easter, On Display was the highest priced yearling by champion sire Fastnet Rock sold in 2023.

Bred by Grahame and Linda Huddy’s Peachester Lodge, On Display is a half-sister to Group I winner Media Sensation and is the second stakes-winner among four winners from four foals to race from High Chaparral (IRE)mare Different To.

A half-sister to Group I winner Dorabella, Different To has a weanling colt by Too Darn Hot (GB) and after missing to Extreme Choice is now in foal to Anamoe.

On Display is the 196th stakes-winner for now retired champion sire Fastnet Rock, whose promising young sire son Acrobat continues his legacy at Coolmore this spring with his first two year-olds to race later this year.
