One To Watch – Ipswich

Dane Squance - Wednesday April 30

With an affiliation for the family, having trained his Group 1-winning full sister as well as her Group 2 winning dam, Wednesday’s QTIS two-year-old maiden-winning son of Vinery Stud’s Star Turn looks full of promise for trainer Robert Heathcote.

Starting the race favourite in the second at Ipswich, 2yo colt Fabulantes went into his debut run having finished second in both his barrier trials, most recently a half-length behind two-year-old Farnan gelding North Pole who was a winner of the third race on Wednesday's Ipswich card.

Bred by his trainer Robert Heathcote, the colt was urged along early in the race by jockey Noel Callow, eventually finding the lead at the 600m mark and while there was plenty of runs coming from back in the field as the home turn was reached, the colt kicked strongly at the 200m mark.

Eased down on the line in what was an impressive display, Fabulantes held a length margin over runner-up Spoilt Rotten (Spirt Of Boom) with Cool Aza Beel filly Kahlua Girl a further length and three quarters back in third.

A full sister to Startantes (Star Turn), a winner of the Group 1 Tattersalls Tiara and the Joint Champion 3YO Filly in Australia in 2021, Fabulantes is out of the Group 2-winning Easy Rocking mare Funtantes, the dam of five to race, all winners.

Star Turn is the sire of Wednesday impressive debut winner Fabulantes

Set to stand the upcoming breeding season at a fee of $16,500 (inc. GST), Vinery Stud's Star Turn is the sire of 21 stakes winners headed by Startantes, while his Group 2-winning, Group 1 placed daughter Alesphina will be offered at this year’s Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale as Lot 510 as part of the Newington Farm Premium consignment.
