Invincible Winner on Champions Day

Tara Madgwick - Sunday April 27

He wasn’t racing in one of the G1 features at Sha Tin on Sunday for Champions Day, but this four year-old son of I Am Invincible is a horse on the up and destined for Black Type in Hong Kong.

Four year-old stallion Invincible Shield made a rapid rise through the grades in Brisbane last year for Tony Gollan from May through until July reeling off four consecutive wins and has picked up where he left off in Hong Kong this year.

Sold privately, Invincible Shield is now trained by Francis Lui and was ridden by Craig Williams on Sunday to score a head win in the Class 2 sprint over 1400m.

Invincible Shield has won three of four starts this year and this victory was his first at 1400m taking his overall record to seven wins from 11 starts.

Invincible Shield was a $480,000 Inglis Classic yearling purchase.

Invincible Shield was a $480,000 Inglis Classic purchase from Yarraman Park for Baystone Farm and is a full brother to Group II placed Tardelli from unraced Pierro mare Pierro Moss, a daughter of stakes-winner Upon The Rock.

He is closely related I Am Invincible’s outstanding sprinting mare Charm Stone, who won the Group I SAJC Robert Sangster Stakes on Saturday. It’s a terrific family that also features Group I winners Criterion and Comin’ Through.

Yarraman Park sold a Hellbent filly from Pierro Moss at Magic Millions this year for $200,000 to Doyle Racing/Mitchell Bloodstock and she produced a colt by Hellbent last spring, but unfortunately then missed to I Am Invincible.
