Invincible Shield Ultra Impresses Gollan

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday June 12

Promising three year-old I Am Invincible colt Invincible Shield failed to place in three starts in good company in Victoria last year including the Group II MVRC Stutt Stakes, but has found a new lease on life since joining the stable of Tony Gollan and powered to an ultra impressive win at Doomben on Wednesday.

He cast off maiden status at the same venue last month cruising to a three length win and did the same thing today when stepped up to a Benchmark 65 event over 1200m.

Ridden by Craig Williams sporting the colours of Sean Buckley’s Ultra Thoroughbreds, Invincible Shield was in a different class, quickly dropping his rivals to win by lengths going away.

“Craig knew what he had under him as he’s ridden him in Melbourne and I’m just fortunate he’s found his way here to Queensland and as a sprinter, he’s a very exciting horse,” said Tony Gollan.

“There’s a lot to look forward to with him over the next year. The idea when he came up here was to teach him  to win and teach him to race and then we can start to set a few higher goals which we will discuss with the team at Ultra Thoroughbreds after today and I think them for sending him to us.

“They could have sent him anywhere in Australia and we’re just the fortunate team that him now and a lot of work went into him in Victoria before he came to me and we are thrilled he’s in our yard.”

Invincible Shield was a $480,000 Inglis Classic purchase.

Invincible Shield was a $480,000 Inglis Classic purchase from Yarraman Park for Baystone Farm and is the first winner for unraced Pierro mare Pierro Moss, a daughter of stakes-winner Upon The Rock.

He is closely related I Am Invincible’s Group and stakes-winning fillies Charm Stone and Najmaty and comes from the family of Group I winenrs Criterion and Comin’ Through.

Pierro Moss produced a filly by Hellbent last spring and is back in foal to him again.
