G1 Goodwood Next for Capitalist Colt

Tara Madgwick - Saturday April 26

Capitalist colt Reserve Bank scored his first stakes win in the Listed SAJC Redelva Stakes two weeks ago and took another leap forward with a dominant win in the Group II SAJC Tobin Bronze Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville on Saturday.

Trained by Mick Price and Michael Kent Jr, Reserve Bank was a Breednet ‘One to Watch’ when winning on debut at two in June last year and has always been held in high regard by his trainers.

Ridden by Blake Shinn, Reserve Bank chimed in with a powerful finish to run straight past his rivals and win by a length and a half eased down.

“He jumped which was good and gave Blake Shinn an option to be midfield, I don't think he got cover, but he was strong to the finish and strong at the 1200,” said Mick Price.

“I'll leave him here with Chris Bieg and we'll train him together and hopefully he can run in the Goodwood (G1 in two weeks) and run well.

“He's a colt and I've had to deal with a couple of little things with him. He had a foot there at one point, and he's a big, boisterous lad, but that was pretty good, I thought. He did everything right and found the line very genuine, it was excellent!”

Reserve Bank was a $410,000 Inglis Premier purchase from Segenhoe Stud.

A $410,000 Inglis Premier purchase from the Segenhoe Stud draft for MG Price Racing & Breeding Pty Ltd, Reserve Bank runs for a syndicate of stable clients and has the overall record of four wins from eight starts with prizemoney topping $335,000.

Bred by Segenhoe, he is the best of two winners from Our Songbird, a metro winning half-sister by Fastnet Rock to stakes-winners Debonairly and Corsaire

Segenhoe sold a yearling colt by Pinatubo (IRE) from Our Songbird at Magic Millions this year for $375,000 to Andy Lo.

Our Songbird had no foal last year after missing the previous season and is now back in foal to Capitalist.

Reserve Bank is a rising star sprinter for Capitalist, who stands at Newgate  this spring at a fee of $44,000.
