Expensive I Am Invincible Mare Wins G1 Sangster

Tara Madgwick - Saturday April 26

The highest priced filly at the 2022 Magic Millions Yearling Sale when selling for $1.55million, I Am Invincible filly Charm Stone has been a star from day one and that translated to Group I success in Adelaide on Saturday when she swooped from the clouds to win the $1million Group I SAJC Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m).

A Group III winner at two and three, the Mick Price and Michael Kent Jr trained mare has always shown the talent to suggest G1 success and that long held dream came to fruition at last.

First up from a spell having finished second in the Magic Millions Cup over 1400m back in January, Charm Stone was fresh and ready to fire with Mark Zahra on board.

He allowed the mare to find her feet and she charged to the line with a well timed run to beat Tassort filly Ameena by half a length with another I Am Invincible mare in Commemorative in third place.

"She's a beautiful mare," Mick Price said.

"We've had her since she was a baby. She's one of Seamus' (Mills) yearling buyers and look… just very, very satisfying to get a Group One for those guys, the mare has deserved it."

It hasn’t been smooth sailing with Charm Stone and Price was relieved to get the job done.

"She ran in the Golden Rose, ran super, couldn't get a run, got beat a length and a half, chipped a knee," Price said.

"So we gave her all the time she needed. She was a sizeable sort of a filly at the time, and she just needed time. To Seamus' credit, when we discuss things, he listens. He's always been patient and they've reaped the benefit of all those decisions."

Charm Stone was a show stopper at Magic Millions.

Bred and consigned by Emirates Park to Magic Millions, Charm Stone was the top-priced filly and third top overall when Sheamus Mills Bloodstock (FBAA) had the final say at $1.55 million.

Charm Stone has had four wins and three placings from 11 starts earning over $1.3million and is a sister to stakes-winner Najmaty from hugely talented Northern Meteor mare Najoom who won five races highlighted by a pair of Group III victories from just seven starts. She comes from the family of Group I winners Criterion, Comin’ Through and numerous stakes-winners.

Najoom has a yearling filly by I Am Invincible that was sold by Emirates Park at Magic Millions this year for $425,000 Peter Snowden/Trilogy Racing/Suman Hedge Bloodstock.

She missed to Justify (USA) in 2023 and is now in foal to Tassort.

Charm Stone is the 17th Group I winner for Yarraman Park’s champion sire I Am Invincible.
