Zloties is the Queen of the South

Dane Squance - Saturday April 26

Having her first attempt at black type racing, 5yo Snitzel mare Zloties produced a well-timed run to capture the $250,000 Group 2 Queen of the South Stakes (1600m) at Morphettville.

Appearing content to race three-wide after jumping away from barrier 8, jockey Jordan Childs knew the capabilities of the mare having ridden her in all her previous four victories.

Starting to make her run down the outside as 4yo Pariah mare Lady In Pink hit the lead, Zloties did take a little time to wind up, but once balanced she powered to the line to take the win in a close finish, with three quarters of a length separating the first five over the line.

“From day one, she always showed us nice ability. We gave her one run at Pakenham, and she ran beautifully, and then we put her away, brought her back. She had a stress fracture of her shoulder, put her away, it was a long-term thing,” Begg said.

“But she's got a good record. She's a beautiful mare, and it's a great result for Pinecliff Racing to be able to win a Group Two.”

Zloties becomes Snitzel's 158th stakes winner

Becoming the 158th stakes winner for Arrowfield Stud’s Snitzel, the Jonathan Munz bred and raced Zloties is the third stakes winner out of the Encosta de Lago mare Polska, herself a half-sister to the dam of Group 1 winner Mighty Boss (Not A Single Doubt) and the Group 2-winning, Group 1 placed Coastwatch (Fastnet Rock).

A half-sister to the Group 2 winners Catch A Fire (Sebring) and Seaburge (Sebring), Zloties has now become a valuable broodmare commodity for Munz’s GSA Bloodstock operation.
