Hiyaam Brings Success for Kiwi Breeders

Media Release - Tuesday April 3
Hiyaam's impact at the highest level has delivered a massive windfall to a pair of New Zealand breeders.

The Mick Price-trained daughter of High Chaparral produced a commanding performance at Rosehill on Saturday to win the Gr.1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) in the hands of former Kiwi apprentice Michael Dee.

HiyaamRaced by breeder Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, Hiyaam was raised at Brighthill Farm and is out of the Zabeel mare Mazarine, who is from the legendary Eight Carat family.

"Chris Chamberlain and I bought the mare off Gavelhouse and she's got a lovely Rip Van Winkle filly, which at this stage we'll keep," said Michael Moran, a long-standing member of the Windsor Park Stud team.

"Rip Van Winkle's certainly a great sire of fillies, he had seven stakes winners from his first crop so we're certainly delighted to have her.

"It was a great result on Saturday and her run in the Phar Lap (she finished third) was off the dial. She's some filly and once she drew one in the Vinery she was never going to get beaten."

Hiyaam will have the opportunity to add further Group One honours to the family roll of honour when she runs next in Saturday week's Australian Oaks (2400m) at Randwickl.

Meanwhile, Mazarine also has an unraced O'Reilly filly named Faazya, who is highly-regarded by the Tony McEvoy stable.

"The Sheikh's racing manager Tim Stakemire has been keeping me up to date and they think she is a Group filly in the making," Moran said.

He also co-bred the multiple Group One winner So You Think, a possible consort for Mazarine later this year.

"The mare went to Iffraaj, but unfortunately the last scan showed she was empty so we'll have to work out the right mate for her this year, maybe So You Think."– NZ Racing Desk.
