Who Served The Stakes Winners Straight Off The Track

Breednet - Tuesday April 3
There were eight Group One winning mares retired prior to the last breeding season that went to Australian sires so we thought we'd have a look at which were the chosen ones, along with all the newly retired stakeswinners.

Australian Oaks winner Rising Romance went to Snitzel in her maiden year. Photo: Mark Smith.Probably not surprisingly three of the eight went to the current big gun, Snitzel.

They included Australian Oaks winner and Caulfield Cup placegetter Rising Romance (by Ekraar) and First Seal (by Fastnet Rock), winner of the Flight Stakes, defeating Winx.

In fact, if you want an interesting stat, First Seal raced against Winx seven times and finished in front of her five times.

Snitzel's other Group One winning maiden mare was Chenille (by Pentire), winner of the Auckland Cup.

Exceed And Excel scored twice with NZ Oaks winner Savaria (by Savabeel) and NZ Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes winner Perfect Fit (by Elusive City), while the other stallions involved were Capitalist, Written Tycoon and Zoustar.

Miss Cover Girl (by Monashee Mountain), winner of the of the Tatt's Tiara went to Capitalist, Charmont (by High Chaparral), winner of the NZ Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes went to Written Tycoon and Tycoon Tara (by Written Tycoon), also a winner of the Tatt's Tiara went to Zoustar.

Here's the full list of stakeswinning mares off the track and which stallion they went to in their maiden year.
Note: data is based on the Australian Studbook list of the top 120 stallions by coverings so may not be a complete list.
