Cool Aza Beel’s promising son Cool Archie was already stakes placed but threw off the maiden tag emphatically at Doomben on Wednesday with better races beckoning over the winter.
Two starts back Cool Archie ran a huge second on the Group III B.J McLachlan Stakes after caught wide, then last time drew gate 15 in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic where he again endured a wide run, finishing eighth.
He drew wide again for this race but there were zero problems, allowed to settle by Martin Harley before moving forward easily out wide and looked the winner well before straightening
At the finish the Chris and Corey Munce trained youngster outclassed Call Da Vinci (Under The Louvre) by 1.3 lengths with Find Me (Camelot) third.
Cool Archie was a $100,000 purchase for Mick Malone Bloodstock from the Newhaven Park draft at the MM Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
He is the fifth winner, and best to date for Tale Of The Cat mare Aware, a three time winner and daughter of Group II winner and Group I placed Media.
The full-sister to Cool Archie made $60,000 at this year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Book 2, while she foaled a full-brother last season and returned to Cool Aza Beel for the fourth time.
Cool Archie is the third winner in his first season for Newhaven Park’s Cool Aza Beel, two in Australia and one in New Zealand, as well as the stakes placed Cobra Club.
